The most beautiful sides of Austria, united in Zell am See-Kaprun

Clean air, clear water, and Salzburg's only glacier skiing area - the making of a really unique region

Here, Mother Nature shows what she has to offer: A glacier, green mountain tops, and the deep blue water of Lake Zell - in Zell am See-Kaprun, Austria's most beautiful facets can be found just a stone's throw away from each other. This interplay of highlights is unique in the Alps and it offers the opportunity of not just meeting sporting challenges, but of enjoying a good rest and relaxation as well.

The region is rich in practically untouched treasures of nature. The crystal clear body of water outside the town gates is among the cleanest in the whole of Europe. For many years now the quality of its drinking water has been proved to be first class - doing sports here is genuine luxury. Swimming, water skiing, sailing, kayaking, or rafting are on the holiday schedule, as are walking, biking, and climbing. The Alpine highlands with 2,000-metre high Schmittenhöhe and the 3,203-metre summit of Kitzsteinhorn are simply made for the latter, as well as for hang-gliding or paragliding. Even enjoying snow in summer is no problem at all: it is made possible by the only glacier skiing area in the province of Salzburg - on Kitzsteinhorn.

Thanks to the Ice Arena - a playground with slides, a snow beach, and piste caterpillars - this day-trip destination in the eternal ice is very popular with families, as is the new 'Maisiflitzer'. This exciting Alpine roller-coaster on Maiskogel is the first and only one in the province of Salzburg. Since last winter visitors have whizzed down the slope here. And Zell am See-Kaprun also offers something very special for people who love the green as well as the mountains: the region's golf course is the largest in the Austrian Alps, has been counted among the leading golf courses of the country for years, and is simply unique in Europe due to its park-like grounds in the Alpine scenery.

After a day on Kitzsteinhorn or the regional golf course, a visit to TAUERN SPA offers relaxation on the highest possible level. This swimming and recreation complex is divided into a water area and a sauna area. Besides an activity pool and a relaxation pool, the water area boasts a high pool with water cascades and luxury resting places.
Thirteen varied saunas indoors and outdoors and some generously designed steam baths round off the offer. And the building, situated near Kaprun's Kitzsteinhorn, also houses rooms for vitality and beauty treatments plus a four-star resort, which make it a 'base camp for body and soul'.

TAUERN SPA is right next to Kaprun's local mountain. The offer is rounded off by events like the Castle Festival, the 'Hochkultur' concert series, or Zell's Lake Festivals.

There are many excellent restaurants for holiday makers to fortify themselves - down in the valley, up on the mountain tops, in inns or Alpine huts. As many as eleven houses in the region count among the 'enjoyment spots' on the map of Via Culinaria, the culinary guide to the province of Salzburg. Movelo bikes help you to reach these gourmet destinations quickly and in an environment-friendly way: Since 2010 Zell am See-Kaprun has been part of the world's largest e-bike region that comprises 25 destinations from Austria to Spain. There are several stations in Pinzgau where visitors can exchange the storage batteries of their bikes quickly and easily, thus staying mobile at any time.
